SA Goodies - South African treats available in Germany
We are very pleased to introduce our new website offering quality South African products available right here in Germany. We are two South Africans living in Germany who discovered that there are very few "home-made" products available on the local market and so we came up with the idea of an on-line shop offering various goodies. We invite you to browse through our range of products, trusting you will find something to whet your appetite ! Click on the pic link to visit the on-line shop.
My Bokkie
..if you are a true patrioot, then a bokkie above the bar is a must have..no true Boer can live without his hunting trophies, and every young boy worth his khakies has to pot a springbokkie to come of age..and then that springbok kop takes pride of place in his room above his bed, and even goes along to the rugby matches! Then when he gets married, he has to move it either to the bar or next to the dart board in the garage.

South Africa Sucks
THE HELL OF BLACK-RULED SOUTH AFRICA - This blog chronicles the slide of a once magnificent, thriving First World country into that of a crime ravaged, Stalinist turd world hell hole!..click on the pic link to read the sad chronicles of the land I used to love so much...
Journey's End
"Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust", saith the Preacher. Here is the text formerly portrayed in still-life. The rich man (symbolized by the Orchid) and the poor man (the old boots and tram ticket) must, at the end of Life's Journey, meet death, the Great Leveller and their material worth becomes victim to the fate of all discarded objects.

King Protea
This beauty, when full open is as wide as a dinner plate. It used to be the national flower of South Africa, but I don't know if it is anymore. It could have been replaced with those brightly coloured plastic 'blooms' one sees fluttering on barbed wire fences..click on the link to take a look at some more of Nigel Dennis' stunning photos
Die Waternymph
The most sold poster in the world...it's a fact...and we had it above the fire place in the lounge in my folks house when I was small...really, really cross my heart..! It's uite funny, but I didn't notice those days that the 'waternymph' was looking n bit hmmm...tanned....I have to thank her for my inspiration and fondness for the beehive hairdo I have sported all my life, and I still get a warm fuzzy feeling of nostalgia when I see this painting, so it must have a place on my blog so I can see it any time I like.
Girlfriends
...no, it's not Gawie in curlers...it's Jens and Lee...Gawie just did Lee's Beehive because she wants to be an Antie look-alike...and he was still busy with Jen's perm when I took the pic, that's why she is in curlers and a doekie, but she still looks nogal sweet ne..!
Koeksusters - Die Lekker Factor Twee Punt Nil
A South African dessert often sold at flea markets and church basaar's, Wikipedia's definition: a syrup-coated doughnut in a twisted or braided shape (like a plait). They are prepared by deep-frying dough in oil then dipping the fried dough into cold sugar syrup. Eating too many koeksusters can make your backside grow rather large very fast...you have been warned.! Click on the pic link for the recipe at your own risk...
Koeksuster Monument - ORANIA
Koeksusters are so popular they have their own monument - Boere vrouens is trots op ons koeksusters...!
Hendrik Frensch Verwoerd
I don't think Oom Hendrik would mind being placed between a koeksuster and the duckies..! Click on the painting to go to a very beautiful biographical blog to read more about this great man. "To those who knew him personally, and I count myself as one of those who had this privilege. His deep sincerity in everything he undertook, his gentleness and his kindness towards all people. His championing of civilized and Christian ideals, and his wise counsels in times of peace and adversity will be greatly missed." - Ian Douglas Smith
Voorkamer classics
...did you know anyone who had these lekker duckies on the wall in their lounge? I knew plenty! Pity I couldn't find a pic of the pirate with the parrot on his shoulder which was also hugely popular as interior decor in my neighbourhood when I was a kid.
..remember, idle hands are the devils tools! Click on the pic link to get started.
Watering Ouma's back garden
The Dying Swan by Tretchikoff
My Ouma had this painting in the lounge, along with three other ballerina paintings, oh and I loved it when I was a little girl..! It was actually what inspired me to want to be a ballerina...but unfortunately I became a bit large, due to not heeding the warnings about the dangers of koeksisters, and so I couldn't do a par de deux because I would probably break the poor male leads spinal coloum, arms and most likely the poor chaps legs too.

Ken jy die Antie?
The Lost Orchid - By Tretchi
Oh...our neighbours on the farm, Oom Kannetjie en Tannie Valeska Dawel had this painting in their voorkamer. I always think of them when I see it and it reminds me of the sleep overs I had there when I played with their daughters Heidi en Lochner. I would gaze at that picture from my seat at the dinning table, I thought it was so great, a painting with such a vibe...a dropped orchid left behind after the party ...This kind of stuff is cult..! I also remember Oom Kannetjie drinking his tea out of his saucer, he would give Florrie, their fat black wooly dog who always had flies buzzing around her, such a stern look, and say to her in his gritty Afrikaans accent..."Florrie...goobye!"...and Florrie would look up at him sheepishly, and he would repeat louder, "Florrie...goobye..!!",...and poor old fat Florrie would saunter out of the house like a good doggie! Ah..the memories a mere piece of art an evoke hey..!
There's no tert like Melktert..!
A real traditional melktert does not have a biscuit crust it has a pastry crust! This recipe on the link is pretty close to my Ouma's recipe, she added almond essence to the filling . click on the pic for the link.
The Mazzawattee Tin
..used to always stand on a shelf in Ouma's pantry, and was filled with loose tea, cause my Ouma swore blind that tea in teabags had an odd taste..!

Oom ET
I just love this pic of Eugene Terreblanche..I was never and am not an AWB supporter, but I do think this is a way cool photie of the Boer patriot and leader. He has very beautiful eyes...he impaled a women once on those blow torch blue eyes, and she was never the same again.. so those eyes are very dangerous, and women must NEVER look straight into them or they can develope Bullimia...even as an old man, I believe his eyes still have impaling abilities! Maybe if you look into them for just a few minutes ,you will loose just enough weight to get back into the size 36 denims! But I will tell you something about Oom ET, in a time of crisis, like say for instance 'Die Nag van die Lang Messe', if there is one man who can motivate the Boere it is him...

Eleanor of Aquitaine.
Duchess Eleanor of Aquitaine was an intelligent and emancipated woman living in the dark middle ages. Although it is a conventional rule that all ladies of high rank should be described as beautiful, all sources agree that Eleanor of Aquitaine really was beautiful. In addition, she was the richest heiress of France and became successively Queen of France and England. Click on the pic link to read about this powerful queen
