Hi all and thanks for still stopping by despite my long absence from my blogs.
As some of you may know, I bought an old fachwerkhaus recently, (in the hopes of turning it into my dream home), no it's not that old castel ruin I told you about some time back, this house is a typical old German style huisie, and it is a beautiful gingerbread house that is sucking all my time and juices renovating the place and getting it ready for habitation, so that is why I hardly ever post any more..
The house was built in 1806, and served as the dorf bakery originally, with the bakery and shop on the ground floor, and the bakers home on the floors above. Since the last war it was inhabited by the same family from who's now 60 something year old daughter I purchased it.
My entire family has been at it now since the beginning of June, cleaning, chopping out old dry walls, stripping layer upon layer of the most dreadful wallpaper off walls, sanding old woodern floors, ripping out disgusting toilets, siff carpets and getting shot of the pigeon infestation in the eaves. Some of the jobs have been absolutely disgusting, dealing with old rotten pipes, drains and toilets ect, piles of pigeon and cockroach poo that accumulated over years, and there are still some crappy jobs that need doing, but slowly but surely we are beginning to see the light, and the place is taking fine shape, so that I have been able to move quite a bit of our stuff over already.
We have put in new loo's, bath tubs, rewired the entire house, new plumbing, the whole trip, so now when I have geusts stay over there is no traffic jam at the bathroom like last time when I had Uncle Cracker here for a visit..he he..remember dude!
I am really knackered and still have a bit of a way to go, but the end of this month we move in come hell or high water, even if the place is still a semi construction site. I would have it a geuss that I will only be back to normal around November when I am on leave, and then I intend to tackle the garden and get it cleaned up and ready for planting in the coming Spring.
So folks, bear with me for a wee bit longer and give me a chance to catch my breath...till laters, keep cool and stay safe..!
Love
DR
